Students Studying During a Science LessonThe science department strives to stimulate curiosity, interest and enjoyment in science.  To this end, as well as our academic record (in 2006, 92% of Y9 students achieved level 5+ in KS3 SATs, 72% of Y11 Dual Award students achieved grades A*-C and our 100% pass rate in all 3 ‘A’ level sciences was maintained), we aim to widen students’ experience of science beyond the school lab.  Previous activities include the “Artist In Residence In Science” project, visits by a mobile planetarium, participation in ‘egg race’ competitions (e.g. the Salter’s Festival), biology field trips and visits to Durham University astronomy department and Glaxo’s laboratories.
