Theatre Studies

The Programme:
The AQA specification we follow is designed to encourage you to develop a range of theatrical skills and to extend your knowledge and understanding of theatre by a careful combination of practical and theoretical work.

The AQA Drama and Theatre Studies course involves:

Unit 1: A. Response to Live Theatre seen through the course B.     Study of a prescribed play from the point of view of
 a director, actor, designer
 (60% AS, 30% of total a level marks)

Unit 2: Group Performance of an extract from a play. Assessment includes preparatory and development work, supporting notes. (40% AS, 20% of total a level marks)

Unit 3: Study of two more prescribed plays, one pre-20th century (30% of A level marks)

Unit 4: Group Performance of Devised Drama. Assessment arrangements as per Unit 2. (20% of total A level marks)

It’s a rewarding course which will develop your self-confidence as well as sharpening your analytical, creative and research skills. What’s more, you will have the pleasures of theatre visits, attending workshops, performing, and working collaboratively with others – and gain a valued qualification at the same time!

 

Requirements:
You should have achieved at least a C grade in both GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature.

Next Steps:
Universities and employers recognise the importance of advanced communication skills. The course aids and encourages the development of these skills at both group and individual level, and will therefore benefit all those following higher education and career paths, as well as those who wish to pursue a career in the world of performing arts.
