The Programme:
The AS award comprises two units which study the sociology of the following topics:-
The family and Households
Education + Sociological Methods
The A2 award comprises a further 3 units which study the sociology of the following topics:
Religion
Crime + Deviance and Theory + Methods
Sociologists ask questions about who we are and how we fit into the world around us. For example, sociology asks us to step back and ask questions like why do I dress this way and listen to this type of music. We are shaped by the society in which we live and in turn shape the society ourselves. If you want to understand this process, take Sociology.
Requirements:
Students should have five GCSEs grades A - C, one of which should be English Language.
Next Steps:
Sociology is a discipline accepted by universities and employers alike. The course provides a background and range of skills that will be relevant to a broad range of careers. Students of Sociology go on to a diverse range of careers, such as:-
Researchers and journalists, Legal work, Police work, Social work and health care, Politics and community development, Management, Local government Teaching and research.
