Religious Studies

The Programme:

"The unexamined life is not worth living"
(Socrates) (469 - 399BC).

Religious Studies A-Level is incredibly challenging, hugely interesting and extremely rewarding. The course covers some of the most profound questions in the history of humanity, such as 'Does God exist?' 'Is killing always wrong?' 'Why do innocent people suffer?' and 'Are we really free?'

Students study a course in Philosophy of Religion with either Religious Ethics. These modules are examined at both AS and A2 levels. Links are examined across the topics, having the effect of reinforcing the wide reach of religious issues.



Entry Requirements:

A GCSE in RE is essential for entry onto the course.
Students should have achieved at least a B grade.
The ability to read extensively and produce a high standard of essay work is essential.

Next steps:

Religious Studies opens many different doors. Recent students are undertaking further studies in Law, Media Studies, History, Theatre Studies, Medicine and many others, as well as the traditional routes of pure Philosophy, Theology and Biblical Studies. Graduates in Religious Studies gain employment in a wide range of areas, e.g. Teaching, Counselling, the Police, Law, the Service Industry and Medicine.
