Music Technology

The Programme:
The course contains practical elements and a written exam.

Sequencing recordings of music to produce realistic performances using Cubase.

A recorded composition using Cubase, multi-track recorder or digital audio system, incorporating sampling, edited sound or signal processing.

 
Recording and producing music played by band and ensembles to produce a final CD.

The exam is based on the area of study ‘music from 1900 to the present day’ including blues, jazz, rock and roll, rock, pop and dance music.

Lessons are essentially practical and students must be able to organise large, high quality projects. Students must often show independence of mind, with regular consultation with staff.

Students also have the opportunity to join in a variety of our performing ensembles and attend a range of events with us.

Requirements:
Students are expected to have completed GCSE music to a standard of B or above and to have ability in reading music. Students should be competent performers on an instrument or the voice. Students should be IT literate and comfortable working with a range of equipment.

Students are expected to be keen musicians who will participate in the full range of musical activities presented within college.

Next Steps:
Degree/foundation courses in music, music technology and performing arts. A wide range of careers are available to those with music qualifications, in areas including Media and Broadcasting (music researcher, sound engineer, composer), Performing (within live bands and ensembles, session studio musician), Education (instrumental tuition, school/college teaching), Music analysis (music critic), Musical Co-ordinator (running theatre company, managing groups and bands, record production).
