The Programme:
We currently offer French, German and Spanish to A2 level. You will be taught in small groups with personal attention from experienced and extremely successful staff. As part of the course you will: Listen to radio interviews, reports, discussions and songs. Talk about current issues such as the environment, music, social problems and sport. Read magazines, newspapers, books, write essays and surveys. Surf the net for up-to-date information. Enjoy the rapid improvement of your language skills!

There are four AS units: Media (TV, advertising and communications technology), Popular Culture (cinema, music and fashion), Healthy Lifestyle (exercise, health and holidays) and Family/Relationships (friendships, marriage and partnerships). There are two examinations at AS Level.

Unit 1 (Listening, Reading and Writing) is worth 70% of AS level and 35% of A Level and Unit 2 (Speaking) is worth 30% of AS Level and 5% of the final A2 Level grade.

There are four A2 units: Environment (pollution, energy and protecting the planet, Multicultural Society (immigration, integration and racism), Contemporary Social Issues (wealth and poverty, law and order and scientific and technological progress) and a Cultural topic (study of target language speaking region or period of 20th century history from a target language speaking country or community).

There are two examinations at A2 Level. Unit 1 (Listening, Reading and Writing) is worth 35% of A2 Level and Unit 2 (speaking) is worth 15% of the final A2 Level grade.

Requirements:
You will need GCSE A or B in the language you wish to study

Next Steps:
The world’s your oyster!!! Wine-tasting in the Loire, interpreting in Brussels, teaching in Barcelona, banking in Paris and Milan - these are just a few of the careers being followed by some of our past students. Languages open up the world to most professions and can be studied on their own or combined with almost any other subject at University.

Student Comment: ‘A Level Spanish is more challenging than the GCSE course; however, it is also much more interesting and rewarding. Although it is difficult to begin with, the small class sizes and weekly individual speaking practices soon help you to improve your existing skills.
