Government and Politics
The Programme:
At AS Level, students will develop a critical awareness of the nature of politics and the link between political ideas, institutions and processes; a knowledge of Government Politics, rights and responsibilities of individuals in order to encourage participation in society and knowledge and awareness of power and authority within the political system.
At A2 Level, students will examine devolution, constitutional reform in Northern Ireland and the effect of the EU and Human Rights Law.
The AS Level modules comprise:
• People, Politics, Participation.
• Governing modern Britain. (The AS may be awarded as a discrete qualification or count as
50% of the A2).
The A2 Level modules comprise:
• The UK political system.
• EU and European issues.
• Policy making in the UK.
Assessment: AS Level – two written exams, 1 ½ hours each. A2 Level – three written examinations.
Requirements:
Students are required to achieve 5 GCSE's at grade A*- C including English Language.

AS and A2 Level Government and Politics provides answers to how policy evolves, how individuals can influence this process, and how representative the political system really is; giving students an educated insight into their place in the political system.
