Community Sports Leaders Award
The Programme
Students start with the Community Sports Leaders' Awards (CSLA) and then can progress to the Higher Sports Leaders' Award. The CSLA course is designed to train students over 16 years of age, giving them the confidence, leadership skills and organisational ability to encourage, motivate and assist young people to become involved in physical activity.
Throughout the course successful students will gain a National First Aid Certificate and at least one National Governing Body Coaching Award. Higher Sports Leaders' Award is for those students with good leadership ability (having completed the CSLA) who wish to develop further an interest in sport.
It is anticipated that those who successfully complete their training may be suitable for employment in many areas of the sport, leisure or recreation industry. These awards certainly add great credit to a student's CV or UCAS application form. They are of a practical nature and are suitable for both GNVQ and A Level students. They are not designed for sports people of county standard but an interest in sport would be useful. Do not be put off because you think you are "not very good at sport" - your sporting prowess is not being assessed, it's your organisation and leadership qualities we'll be looking at.
Student Comment:
'The course was brilliant and I would advise anyone who wants to work with children in the future to take these awards. You gain coaching awards throughout the year, which increase your confidence when teaching in these areas.'
