CISCO/iPro
The Programme
The CCNA Discovery curriculum is composed of four courses:
• Networking for Home and Small Businesses
• Working at a Small-to-Medium Business or ISP
• Introducing Routing and Switching in the Enterprise
• Designing and Supporting Computer Networks
CCNADiscovery teaches networking based on application covering the types of practical networks students may encounter, from simple home or small office networks to more complex enterprise models. Students learn the technical skills and soft skills needed to succeed in entry-level networking professions. CCNA Discovery also provides an introduction to advanced technologies such as voice, video, wireless, and security.
OCR Level 3 Certificate/Diploma for IT Professionals is a appliedly-related qualification that provides valuable opportunities for individuals to develop skills and gain underpinning knowledge and understanding which will support entry into the IT industry. It supports achievement of Key Skills and relates to national occupational standards thereby providing an ideal progression to National Applied Qualifications (NVQs) once individuals are in suitable employment.
Requirements:
Students are expected to have obtained a level 2 pass in ICT, either from a GCSE or OCR National course and to be independent in their approach to learning, as some of the material is on-line.
Next Steps:
The OCR iPro units provide students with both skills and relevant qualifications for the growing network based employment market. As some of the units are internationally recognised (CCNA - Cisco Certified Network Associate) the opportunities for employment exist within and outside the UK.
OCR are pleased to report that UCAS points for iPro Level3 have now been approved by the UCAS Board. The points are:
* 80 points for the Certificate
* 100 points for the Diploma
Typical jobs for network technicians include network installer, help desk technician, pre-sales support technician, or network technician.
