National Award in Sport
BTEC

The Programme:
The BTEC National award is a 6-Unit qualification that consists of three core units;

• The Body in Action
• Health and Safety in Sport
• Training and Fitness for Sport

In addition to the three core units three specialist units are also studied. Assessment is 100% coursework for all of the units covered.

The core units provide;

•an insight into the functions of the body systems when people perform in sport •an opportunity for the learner to develop an understanding of the importance of health and safety in sport •an understanding for the need for fitness and how to train effectively in sport via designing and participating in a P.E.P (Personal Exercise Plan)

The course contains a balance of practical skill development and knowledge requirements that are applied to coursework.

Of the six units studied, one assignment is externally set and the other five internally.

Requirements:
At least 4 GCSE Passes Grade D. GCSE PE or BTEC First in Sport desirable, but not essential.

Next Steps:
This course is designed to equip individuals with knowledge, understanding and practical skills required for success in current and future employment in the sport related industries or for progression into Higher Education.

Learners that successfully complete the course have been known to go into careers in Sports development, Sports coaching, The Armed Forces, PE Teaching, The Leisure Industry or Outdoor Education.

‘I chose this course because I liked sport. I though that I would have to be really good at practical sport to do well, but I have realised you don’t. Once I started the subject I found that liked it more and more. I like the way that there is no exam at the end and that it is all coursework.’
