The Programme

A career in care can be varied, ranging from social work and nursing to community based careers. With a Health and Social Care qualification, career opportunities are possible in many care environments, including; hospitals, day centres and residential homes.

This broad based course will give you knowledge of the issues within care. It includes learning about how people develop, skills for working with people, services available for people, Nutrition for health and Social Care and communication and inter-personal skills
If you are interested in a career which focuses on care, this course will provide you with a good insight into the caring professions.

You will learn through classes which are a mixture of tutor led sessions, workshops, group work and guest speakers. You will need to devote 4 hours per week to private study, although this will increase during assessment periods.

Assessment is through assignments, presentations and practical work. There no examinations.

Year One Modules
• Developing effective communication
• Equality, diversity and rights
• Health, safety and security

Year Two Modules
• Health Education
• Nutrition for Health and Social Care
• Complimentary Therapies for Health and Social Care


Requirements:
You will need to have a minimum of 5 passes at GCSE grades *A - C

Next Steps:

The course gives a vocational and academic grounding in all aspects of Health & Social Care. Students have the opportunity to consider a range of options within each vocational pathway - health, social care and early years care and education. It provides an excellent basis for a wide range of higher education courses and careers.

Past students have been successful in applying for degree courses in areas such as nursing and other health professions, teaching, childhood studies, social work, youth and community work.

'I am considering a career in an aspect of Health and Social Care. I think that the breadth and variety of the course will broaden my knowledge. I do not perform very well in examinations so the fact that the course is based on assignment work suits my style of learning.'
