Comenius
Comenius is part of a the EU education programme, Socrates, (managed in the UK by the British Council - www.britishcouncil.org/socrates) which provides opportunities for schools and staff across Europe to work together. Comenius was a 17th-century Czech philosopher and educationalist who worked for peace and unity between nations. Projects run for a maximum of three years, giving participants from at least three countries the chance to exchange experiences, increase their general knowledge and learn how to appreciate and understand each other's views through activities integrated into the school's timetable.
Our first project "Communities in Change" ran between 1999 and 2002 and involved five partner schools, initially, in Germany, Finland, Spain and the UK.
Our second project "How Migration has shaped our European Culture" started
in September. This time our partners include schools from Germany, Poland,
Cyprus, Hungary and Slovakia.
Some of the finished products for the latest project can be seen on the project website: www.ghs-mh.de/migration
Others include a calendar for the academic year 2007 – 2008, which showcases some of the art work on the theme of migration and a recipe book, which demonstrates the influence migrants have had on local cuisine.
