Key Stage 3
The department follows the QCA schemes of work, which we have adapted to suit our needs. These are supported by excellent text- based resources, written specifically to fulfil the needs of the course. In KS3 Science, pupils are taught in their mixed-ability form classes for three lessons per week.
In years 7 and 8, they have one science teacher, who they
see for all of their lessons. Year 9 classes have subject specialists for
separate biology, chemistry and physics lessons. The scheme of
work for each year group consists of twelve units of work, which
provide a balance of the three sciences.
Assessment:
Each unit of work is assessed, the method of assessment varying
from topic to topic. Some assessments are written tests, some
are practical assessments, etc. SAT exams are taken in the
summer of year 9.
