PopUps
Pop-Ups are dynamically created browser windows that are designed with a specific shape and size. This allows web designers to develop individual and original content through the use of custom size windows. Pop-Up windows can also be designed to have restricted options, such as no scroll bars, no resize option and no menus. Pop-Ups are also used to ensure that the content they are displaying is always on top of any other program or browser window that is also running.
Windows XP users with Service Pack 2 may experience problems with Pop-Ups windows due to a built in feature of Service Pack 2 which disables Pop-Ups in an on going battle with Spyware, Virus distribution and malicious code prevention.
Microsoft has taken this step due to the overwhelming percentage of harmful Pop-Ups.
The blocking option can be turned off in Internet Explorer. Simply click the tools menu and then go down to Pop-Up Blocker and finally selecting Turn off Pop-Up Blocker. Alternatively you can keep Pop-Up blocker on but select certain sites that allow Pop-Ups. To do this, follow the above instructions but go to Pop-Up Blocker Settings, here you can enter the address of websites you wish to enable Pop-Ups from, such as this one. You can also change further Pop-Up Blocker settings from this window.
